DIY Beauty Recipe: Lavender, Peppermint, and Honey Scrub!

If you’re wondering who “Mrs. Judi” is from that tag, she’s my fiance’s most esteemed mother whose birthday happened to be today! As you can see, I made her a fancy sugar scrub! (Which she was very pleased with, go me!)

I’ve been making my own body scrub for years now, and I can say with absolute confidence that they always beat store bought ones. At lest in my experience. If you can’t be parted from your favorite brand’s scrubby goodness, then don’t let me stop you; but I would really encourage you to try this stuff out. It makes your skin silky smooth, and it’s super cheap to make! You’ll have plenty of cash left over for all those other beauty products you can’t live without.

To start off, you’re going to need a few simple ingredients. Be forewarned that I usually eyeball my measurements for things like this. It’s not an exact science, and you can easily tweak the recipe to fit your preferences or to make a bigger/smaller batch.

sugarscrubingredients

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Oil (I used grapeseed, but olive, coconut, sweet almond, and most others will work too)
  • 1/2 tsp Vitamin E Oil* (To preserve and add an extra kick of moisturizing goodness)
  • 1/2 tsp Peppermint Essential Oil* (I probably added more because I like my stuff REALLY minty)
  • 1/4 Cup Lavender Buds
  • 1/2 Tbs of honey (I used a honey straw. Raw is best, but not-raw will work.)

*The Vitamin E oil I have in the image above is diluted with carrier oils, like soybean and coconut oil. It doesn’t hurt the product, but I’d recommend getting pure.  I will be when I run out of this bottle.

*If you are a pregnant lady, consult your doctor before using essential oil. It’s powerful stuff.

I picked up most of these ingredients from my local Nutritional Center. You can also get all these goodies over at Mountain Rose Herbs if you’re an online shopper.

Now here’s the really challenging part. Pay close attention or you may never get your sugar scrub made! You, ready? You sure? Okay, here we go…

Mix it all together in a bowl. Scoop it all into your container.

Ta dah! Your sugar scrub is complete!

“But, there’s no way it’s that simple? Where’s the magical super-secret step that makes all those store bought scrubs so stinkin’ expensive?!”

Yep, that’s it. Seriously. They are charging you for mixed up, goopy sugar and oil with some flowers in it. The secret step may be adding all those icky, chemically preservatives and stuff; but trust me, you don’t want that step.

The really great thing about this recipe is that it’s not written in stone. Want it to be a bit more oily? Add more oil. Want it to be thicker? Add less oil. Want it to be so minty you smell like a giant candy cane when you get out of the shower (like me)? Add more peppermint essential oil. You can even change up the additives entirely to make a whole new scrub! It’s like a fun science experiment, but with little to no risk of explosions!

As an added bonus, try shaving your legs with this scrub. Exfoliate, shave, rinse, and pass the razor over one more time. Your legs will be so silky. I’m dead serious. In fact, I’m about to go do that myself.

Enjoy!

    • It really is! Scrubs that follow the 2 part sugar 1 part oil ratio are not only exfoliating, but also incredibly moisturizing! Just be careful if you use it in the shower with no shower mat. The oils can make the tub slick.

  1. I received a jar of this for my Birthday! Lucky Me! It is a truly luxurious scrub and the peppermint is really rejuvenating! It does make for a slippery, & a little messy tub, but it’s worth it! What a treat!
    Thanks Sweetie ❤
